R5-PARA Racing

As a visually-impaired bike racer, I compete in the Paralympic Cycling Division on a tandem bicycle with a fully-sighted teammate, the driver or captain, who controls the braking and steering. BVI bike racers typically do the bulk of his or her training indoors until training can be done outside on the road or track. Building an effective indoor training station is very important so that the BVI athlete is prepared, once on the tandem. By using Performance Pro studio, the compuTrainer and the PC and MAC accessibility features zoom and voiceover, it is possible to adapt to vision loss and train with metrics such as power, cadence and heart rate.
